Child-abuse prevention
focus of Waipahu rally

The public is invited to join the
march along Farrington Highway

A march will take place Tuesday in Waipahu to acknowledge Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

The Waipahu Pride and Unity March & Rally will start by Longs Drugs at the Waipahu Town Center at 5 p.m. and end at Waipahu District Park.

The public is invited to attend.

Participants will march along the mauka side of Farrington Highway and end at Paiwa Street at the Waipahu District Park. The public may join the march at any point along Farrington Highway. Marchers are encouraged to bring a flashlight and wear comfortable walking shoes.

A rally will be held at the park that will feature information on community resources, as well as people sharing their experiences with child abuse.

The event is being coordinated by a coalition of community groups, organizations and residents, including the YMCA Communities in Schools, Honolulu Police Department's Weed & Seed Program, Way of Truth Church, Waipahu United Church of Christ, Waipahu Tower Association, Public Health Nurses with the state Department of Health and Sen. Brian Kanno (D, Ewa Beach-Makakilo).
