Asao surges to tie
for 13th, but UH
back in WAC packHawaii's Norman-Ganin Asao shot a 69 yesterday at Turtle Bay Golf Course on the second day of the WAC Golf Championships to move into a tie for 13th place and help the Warriors creep up from ninth to eighth with one day left.
Tulsa (19-under 557) took a 15-stroke lead over Fresno State, thanks to tournament leader David Inglis. Southern Methodist is 16 back and Texas-El Paso 18 back.
Inglis followed up his opening day 63 with a 66 yesterday for a comanding 12-shot lead over teammate Billy Lowry and SMU's Ryan Abbate.
Asao sits 15 back of Inglis at 144.
Hawaii's other golfers are Jaime Matsumura (T-26, 148), Kellen-Floyd Asao (T-31, 150), Matthew Kodama (T-33, 151) and Kramer Aoki (T-45, 156).
Annual karate meet slated for Sunday
The 21st annual All Hawaii-Okinawa Karate-Do Championships is set for Sunday at the Aliamanu Military Reservation Gym.Competition in Kata, Kumite and Kobudo begins at 9 a.m., open to all karate or martial arts students of all ages and ranks.
USA National Karate-Do Federation members are eligible to qualify for the USA National Championships through this regional tournament.

UH to host pair of basketball camps
The annual Rainbow Men's Basketball Summer Camp, featuring Hawaii coach Riley Wallace and current and former UH players, will have two sessions in June.The camps are scheduled for June 8-10 and June 11-13, running from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. The sessions are open to boys and girls, ages 5-17.
The cost is $150 and includes a basketball and T-shirt. Application and payment are due May 24. For information, call 956-6501.
