Indigo’s martinis
make for happy hour

EVER HAD one of those days when you just can't seem to shake the storm clouds over your head? When the boss seems to be using a shovel to bury you in work or when your sorry excuse for a car gives up the ghost to that great junkyard in the sky?

The past few weeks have been like that for me, but I think I've found the perfect pick-me-up. Every Tuesday through Friday at Indigo Eurasian Cuisine from 4 to 7 p.m., all martinis are just $2.75 ...

There's something about a martini that sets it apart from other drinks. Make no mistake: A martini is no cocktail for rookies. If you don't pace yourself, the floor becomes your friend very quickly. I know from experience ...

Early evenings at Indigo also feature complimentary pupu courtesy of chef Glenn Chu. The food usually appears around 5 p.m. -- just in time for pau hana. And on Saturdays, Indigo keeps the martini madness going from 6 p.m. till closing.

Indigo is at 1121 Nuuanu Ave., near the intersection of Nuuanu and Bethel streets. No cover. Call 521-2900.

TICKETS GO on sale Saturday at Ticket Plus locations for the return of comedian Wayne Brady. The star of "The Wayne Brady Show" and a regular performer on the show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" will take the stage 7:30 p.m. May 24 at the Sheraton-Waikiki Hawaii Ballroom.

Brady, who last performed in Hawaii at Diamond Head Theatre in 2000, is no stranger to the islands.

With a local girl for a wife and in-laws living in Hawaii, he's a virtual kamaaina ...

Reserved table tickets are $35 each, and will also be available at Tempo Music stores, the UH Campus Center and Foodland stores statewide. Call 526-4400 or visit www.ticketsplushawaii.com.

RATHER SEE grown men beat the snot out of each other instead of standing in line for tickets this weekend? Then check out SuperBrawl XXIV: Return of the Heavyweights, a two-day contest with more than $20,000 in prize money up for grabs ...

Local bruisers Wes "Cabbage" Coreirra and Eddie Yagin are on the card along with 14 others in search of mixed martial arts glory and the recognition that comes with victory.

When a similar heavyweight tournament was held two years ago, three-quarters of the participants continued on to compete in either UFC or Pride, the two premier fighting organizations.

Watch for similar breakout performances this weekend ...

HELP RAISE money for the American Cancer Society at the "Coaches vs. Cancer" auction at Murphy's Bar & Grill from 6 to 10 tonight. In 2000, UH supporters raised $127,000 for the ACS Hawaii Chapter, good enough for second place in the nation. And last year, men's b-ball coach Riley Wallace was named National Coach of the Year ...

Items up for bid tonight include a Jason Elam autographed UH poster, a Hulk Hogan autographed picture, one-week trips to Las Vegas, two-night stays at a variety of local resorts, interisland airplane tickets on Aloha Airlines, restaurant gift certificates and more. Tickets for the fund-raiser are $35. Call 595-7544, or buy a ticket at Murphy's when you go ...

THIS WEEKEND marks the grand opening of the Architechs' new party, "F5ve Deadly Venoms @ House of Hong." Asianavenue.com, Lady Enyce and Def Jam Records are on board as sponsors for this two-room party in Waikiki. Check out DJ XL, Delve, Pachi and Mr. F on the tables in two rooms, go-go dancers on stage and free pupu before midnight ...

House of Hong is at 260 Lewers St., next to Starbucks. Five bucks gets you in the door, and validated parking is available at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center across the street. The fun starts at 10 p.m. Visit www.architechshawaii.com for details.
