Strombach chooses Sac State

Moanalua outfielder Jimmy Strombach signed a national letter of intent to attend Cal State Sacramento on a partial baseball scholarship yesterday.

Strombach, 6-feet, 155 pounds, was a second-team all-state selection last year after helping Moanalua reach its first state tournament. He was also recruited by Hawaii and was being pursued by the U.S. Naval Academy to play football.

"(Sacramento State) gave me the option to play football, but I'm just going to focus on baseball to start," said Strombach, who set Oahu Interscholastic Association records for receiving yards and touchdowns last fall.

Strombach is also a candidate for Major League Baseball's first-year player draft in June.

"I really want to go to school, but my dream is to play at that higher level," Strombach said. "If I'm lucky enough to get drafted high enough I'd consider it. But the way it's looking right now, I'll go to school and hopefully things will work out down the road."
