IF YOU slept in yesterday, chances are that the Jamba Juice Second Annual Free Smoothie Morning passed you by (get up before 9? Are you crazy?). From 6 to 9 a.m. at all Oahu locations, Jamba Juice customers were treated to 24-ounce smoothies without having to drop a nickel.
The motive behind the promotion is almost as sweet as the smoothies served. Last year, more than $6,000 was raised in Hawaii for the American Cancer Society's Honolulu Chapter. The company has a goal of $10,000 this year.
Maui residents still can participate and make a donation to the ACS. The company repeats its free-smoothie offer from 6 to 9 a.m. tomorrow at its Kahului and Kihei sites. If you're particularly motivated, jump an early flight there. Barring a body cavity search, you could be back on Oahu by midmorning ...
LOCAL GIRL Kelly Hu held it down for the 808 state Tuesday during an appearance on VH1's "Late World With Zach." She's making the rounds promoting her new movie "The Scorpion King," in which she is the romantic interest of The Rock. To her credit, Hu preached the gospel of Spam on national TV and epronounced "Hawaii" correctly, unlike the host ...
ALSO MAKING the rounds on VH1 is the latest single from Sheryl Crow, "Soak Up the Sun." Filmed on location here earlier this year, the video features scenic shots of the North Shore and girls in the surf while Crow sits there and looks really good as she plays the guitar.
While you see Crow paddling out during a scene in the video, there is a reason she's not ripping it up with the local girls who are more prominently featured. The singer, who received a longboard from video director Wayne Isham for her birthday Feb. 11, only started taking lessons a few days earlier ...
Crow's latest album, "Come On, Come On," went on sale Tuesday. It features guest appearances by Liz Phair, Lenny Kravitz and even Don Henley.
MONDAY'S passing of Moe Keale will be remembered tomorrow during the KINE 105 FM Ohana Concert at Windward Mall. Keale, who received a pacemaker earlier this year after a heart attack, was 62.
The former Sons of Hawaii member also acted in a number of television shows and was a lomi practitioner at the Lomi Shop in Windward Mall. Na Oiwi take the stage at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow to start this weekend's memorial event, and a calabash will be available for the benefit of Keale's family ...

ONE LAST heads-up for families. Tomorrow and Saturday, Iolani School hosts its annual Family Fair on its baseball field. Although it's definitely not the carnival I got to experience during my years there, the fair's organizers have a variety of food and activities to try ...
Local restaurants Sansei, Roy's, L'Uraku and others will offer professionally made items at the Gourmet Booth, with fair staples like malasadas, barbecue chicken, Hawaiian plates and more. Local acts entertain from 7:30 p.m. both nights, with Ale'a and Da Bruddahs featured on Friday. Hawaiian Times and Ho'onu'a (with fellow Iolani alum Christian Yrizarry) perform on Saturday.
