Moanalua made 17 of 20 free throws in the fourth quarter to score a 53-45 home victory over Kalaheo last night in an Oahu Interscholastic Association girls basketball game.

The result tightened the OIA Eastern Division playoff race. McKinley remains atop the division at 7-0, with Kahuku a game behind at 6-1. Kalani is third at 6-2, with Moanalua and Kalaheo now a half-game back at 5-2.

Moanalua's Christina Sierra led all scorers with 20 points, and she made six of eight shots from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Patti Hardimon went 8-for-8 from the line and finished with 12 points.

Latoya Wily and Bre Carson scored 16 points each to lead Kalaheo. Carson drained four of the Mustangs' six 3-pointers.

The Red Raiders made 11 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to move into sole possession of second place in the division.

Michelle Peters scored six of her eight points in the final period and Kelci Naihe added six of her team-high 12.

Cheynna Souza led Kaimuki with 13 points.

Amber Lee scored 21 points as the Tigers remained undefeated in the division.

Lee accounted for all of McKinley's points in the first quarter to give the Tigers a 12-5 lead. McKinley hit 12 free throws in the final period to put the game out of reach.

Ashley Takata and Tamari Miyashiro combined to score 28 points to lead the Falcons over the Knights.

Takata scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half as Kalani took a 34-26 halftime lead and held off Castle the rest of the game. Shantel Tilton led Castle with 11 points.

The Surfriders outscored the Cougars 12-2 in the final period to pull out their first win of the season.
