Tickets for Hawaii's first-round match of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball tournament are on sale beginning today at the Stan Sheriff Center ticket office.No. 2 Hawaii hosts seventh-seeded Long Beach State at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sheriff Center. Should Hawaii win and top-seed Pepperdine lose at home to Cal State Northridge, the Warriors would host the MPSF tournament semifinals April 25 and final April 27.
If both Hawaii and Pepperdine win this Saturday, the Waves will host April 25-27 in Malibu, Calif.
Saturday's other first-round matches have No. 6-seed UC Santa Barbara at No. 3 UCLA and No. 5 Stanford at No. 4 BYU.
Upper level tickets are $7 for students, $9 for senior citizens and $10 for adults. Lower level tickets are $13.
The UH ticket office is open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Tickets are also available through Ticket Plus (526-4400) between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Still No. 3: The Hawaii men's volleyball team remained the third-ranked team in yesterday's Volleyball magazine Top 10 poll.
The top nine places remained unchanged with Pepperdine at No. 1 and BYU at No. 2.
Vulcans shut out by Beavers on road trip
The Hawaii-Hilo baseball team managed just two hits in being shut out by Oregon State 11-0 yesterday at Goss Stadium in Corvallis, Ore.The Beavers (23-12) blasted 12 hits off three Vulcans pitchers in completing a sweep of the four-game series.
Hawaii-Hilo (9-34-1) continues its road trip today with a single game at Sacramento State.
Medals for Tong, Takata at USA Judo Nationals
Amy Tong and Tyler Takata of Hawaii won their respective divisions at the USA Judo National Championships in Cleveland last weekend.Takata, an Iolani School graduate and current resident at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado, was 5-0 in the 60-kilogram division.
Tong, a 2000 OIympian from Hawaii Kai, went 4-0 in defending her 78-kilogram title.
Pelen Jr., Okanao up for another boxing medal
Returning champions Jeffrey Pelen Jr. and Rance Okanao are among the state's top young boxers competing Saturday in the Hawaii Junior Olympic Championship at Waianae Regional Park.The winners in the 15-16 year-old divisions will advance to the U.S. Junior Olympics, June 15-24, at the U.S. Olympic Center in Marquette, Mich. There will also be non-tournament bouts for senior-aged boxers (17-35).

Vulcan golfers 10th with 1 round left
The Hawaii-Hilo men's golf team was in 10th place heading into today's final round of the Buzzini/Stanislaus Invitational at Turlock, Calif.The Vulcans shot a 620 to trail host CSU Stanislaus by 42 strokes.
Hilo's Nick Mason was tied for 26th after carding a two-round 154. He trails leader J.J. Jakovac of Chico State by 12 strokes. Tied for 39th at 157 are Vulcans Garrett Okamura, Brian Okumura and Tysen Shinaut, with teammate Ross Mitsutani at 159.
10K Pineapple Run Saturday at Wahiawa
The Wahiawa Pineapple Run features a new course Saturday, including a jaunt through the pineapple fields in the 10K benefit race's 27th running.The loop begins and ends at Kaala Elementary. The 6.2-mile race starts at 7 a.m.
Late entry packets will be available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Pacific SportsCare in Wahiawa. The late fee is $25.

Sapolu, pros take on cops in benefit celebrity hoops
Former San Francisco 49ers standout Jesse Sapolu leads a group of NFL players against a team of Honolulu Police officers in a benefit basketball game for the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers on April 27 at St. Louis School.The SHOPO Challenge 2002 also features an appearance by the Oakland Raiderettes cheerleaders. Sapolu, a former Hawaii and San Francisco 49ers star, and the other athletes will sign autographs for kids in attendance.
Tickets are $15 at the door. Youth organizations may obtain blocks of free tickets by calling event coordinators at 524-0707.
Cinco de Mayo swim on Big Island
The Hilton Waikoloa Village's annual Cinco de Mayo Splash takes place May 5 at Anaehoomalu Bay on the Big Island.Courses are a mile for adults and 400 meters for children 12 and under. Registration and check-in is from 6:30-7:30 a.m. The adult race begins at 8 a.m., followed by the children's event.
Entry fees are $25 for adults, $20 for ages 13-19 and $12 for 12 and younger. A late fee of $10 will be charged after April 26.

Kennelly named ESPN's best surfer
Kauai's Keala Kennelly has been selected the 2002 Female Surfer of the Year by ESPN.In a ceremony at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, fellow Hawaii surfer Malia Jones presented Kennelly the award.
This summer, Kennelly will appear on a Universal Pictures drama called Blue Crash, where she will play herself.
