Beavers blast Vulcans for
32 runs in 2 games

Oregon State defeated the Hawaii-Hilo baseball team twice yesterday in Corvallis, Ore.

The first game was a continuation of a rain-delayed game from Saturday night, and the Beavers held on to beat the Vulcans 11-9.

In yesterday's regularly scheduled game, Oregon State (22-12) erupted for 16 hits in a 21-3 rout of Hawaii-Hilo.

Kaliko Oligo and Scott McLaughlin connected for three hits each, while Douglas Nassimbene collected two hits and four RBIs for the Vulcans (9-33-1) in the first game. Keola Park added three RBIs.

Hawaii-Hilo's Darren Chu and Johnny Dudoit hit solo home runs in the second game.

Rainbow Wahine split 2 tennis matches

Hawaii beat San Jose State 6-1 on Saturday, but lost to Texas-El Paso 5-2 yesterday in women's tennis.

Three Rainbow Wahine players -- Stacy Hakikawa, Polina Kravets and Paige Mainor -- accomplished 6-0, 6-0 singles victories against the Spartans.

Kravets and Mainor were Hawaii's only singles winners against the Miners.

Hawaii (6-16, 1-2 Western Athletic Conference) begins preparation today for the April 26-28 WAC tournament.

Lee is public parks tennis champion

Sonya Lee defeated Christie Pagatpatan 6-0, 6-1 to win the women's singles title in the 76th Oahu Public Parks Tennis Championships yesterday at Diamond Head Tennis Center.

C.J. Colburn and Charlie Swift earned the men's doubles title by scoring a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Robbie Eiford and Ray Handy.

Martie Ishida meets Brant Kelsey in the men's singles final today at the Diamond Head Tennis Center.

In the semifinals yesterday, Ishida topped Colburn 6-2, 6-3, while Kelsey dropped Eiford 6-1, 6-1.

Hilo drops Hawaii Pacific in PacWest softball

The Hawaii-Hilo softball team swept a doubleheader with Hawaii Pacific at Kaneohe yesterday, winning the first game 8-0 and the second 7-3.

The Vulcans pounded out 28 hits in the two games, led by Diana Kim, Leinani Hashida and Kayla Kahuli with four hits each.

Kristine Kahoaliigot the shutout in the first game and Taysha Anderson surrendered three runs but outdueled HPU's Mallory Anderson in the nightcap.
