During the "I Love Kailua" town party in Kailua yesterday, Kokia Kuulei Kamanaolena Chandler, center, and other dancers of Aloha O Pu'uwailani Halau Hula performed for the crowd. The event raised money for beautification projects in Kailua.

Korean Centennial Festival

Eun Sun Jung performed a traditional Korean dance yesterday at Daiei on Kaheka Street during the Korean Immigration Centennial Festival opening ceremony. Festivities included tae kwon do demonstrations and other performances showcasing Korean culture. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first Korean immigrants to Hawaii.

The Waialua High School robotics team showed off a prototype yesterday of a robot that it will be taking to a national competition in Orlando, Fla., next week. Engineer Stuart Nishimura made an adjustment to the robot as Lyle Lopez, back left, and Corey Ikeda prepared to drive the machine. The robot must be able to pick up soccer balls and toss them into a mobile goal.
