Pops lineup really sings
Michael McDonald, Lou Rawls, Michael Feinstein and Dave Koz headline the 2002-03 Pops season, which begins in September at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.Saxophonist Koz has performed solo concerts in Honolulu, while McDonald, Rawls and Feinstein have appeared within the last three years with the Honolulu Symphony Pops. The Pops series features seven shows on Fridays and Saturdays, led by conductor Matt Catingub. The schedule:
>> Sept. 27 and 28: Rawls, who has won three Grammys and has a platinum album, five gold albums and a gold single.
>> Oct. 18 and 19: Pianist and singer Michael Feinstein, noted for his performances of music by Ira and George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer, Duke Ellington and Harry Warren.
>> Nov. 15 and 16: Slack-key guitarist Keola Beamer.
>> Dec. 13 and 14: Na Leo Pilimehana, featuring the voices of Angela, Lehua and Nalani.
>> Jan. 17 and 18, 2003: Dave Koz appears with Daniel Ho.
>> April 11 and 12: Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Barry Flanagan.
>> May 30 and 31: Former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald, known for hits including "What a Fool Believes," "Takin' It to the Streets" and "I Keep Forgettin'."Season tickets are on sale at the Honolulu Symphony ticket office at Dole Cannery, with packages priced at $119 to $364. Current subscribers are guaranteed their existing seats if subscriptions are renewed by April 30. Call 792-2000.
