Everyone of them is an amateur -- in love with the camera and flowers. And their portraits of island blooms have won them top honors at the Canon 2001 Amateur Photo Contest.

Five photographers were selected for top honors from 580 entries in the "Flowers in Hawaii" contest. Another 25 photographs by other amateurs also were awarded with honorable mentions.

The winning works are on display at the Canon Photo Gallery at Ward Plaza, 210 Ward Ave., Suite 200, through this month. Admission is free and the gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Call 522-5930.

The yearly amateur contest open to all ages, and next year's theme is "My Favorite Things in Hawaii."
