Seven members of the City Council have introduced a resolution to appoint Central Oahu resident Darrlyn Bunda to be its ninth member. Resolution names Bunda
as replacement for ManshoBy Gordon Y.K. Pang
gpang@starbulletin.comPending a public hearing and approval by the Council at an April 24 meeting, Bunda would replace Rene Mansho, who resigned yesterday amid pending criminal charges tied to allegations she misused her Council staff and campaign funds.
Bunda, 58, is the executive director of the Waipahu Community Association and formerly headed the Leeward Oahu Transportation Management Association. The Mililani Mauka resident's husband, Ronald, is the uncle of Senate President Robert Bunda.
"I'm excited about having a chance to be part of the discussion and decision-making," Bunda said. "I've always been on the other side of the table, and it's not often that you get a chance like this, even if it's for eight months."
The 1st Council District encompasses the North Shore, Wahiawa, Mililani and a portion of Waipahu. Council Chairman John DeSoto said only District 1 residents who agreed not to seek a Council seat in elections this fall were considered because he did not want to give candidates an unfair advantage.
