Waianae scores late to win

Travis and Chad Rodrigues combined to drive in three runs in the top of the eighth inning as Waianae pulled out a 9-6 road win over Waialua in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division baseball game yesterday.

Waialua rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings.

Kody Cruz started Waialua's rally with a leadoff double. Gavin Nakamura cracked a two-run double and Ikaika Soares drove in the tying run.

"Up to the fifth inning, we couldn't do anything," said Waialua coach Herbert Onizuka. "Somehow we came alive in the fifth and tied it in the seventh."

But the Seariders took control in the eighth. Travis Rodrigues hit a two-run double and his brother, Chad, followed with an RBI hit for Waianae.

Pearl City 12, Campbell 1: Jonathan Serapion hit a three-run homer and earned the pitching win as the Chargers handed the Sabers their first loss of the season.

Serapion's homer highlighted Pearl City's seven-run outburst in the first inning. He also limited Campbell to three hits and struck out eight in five innings.

Mililani 18, Nanakuli 0: Christopher Balatico struck out nine batters and drove in two runs to lead the Trojans to a rout of the Golden Hawks.

Balatico threw four no-hit innings before coming out in the fifth. Jusint Amano had four RBIs for Mililani.

The game was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Castle 2, Kaimuki 1: The Knights won a pitcher's duel thanks to Scott Shinsato's RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.

Castle's Noah Kon struck out three batters in five innings and picked up the win. Kaimuki starter Jay Tokuuke surrendered three hits and struck out five over six innings, but took the loss.

Kailua 6, Kaiser 3: Kamaile Santos gave up three unearned runs in a complete-game performance in the Surfriders' home win over the Cougars.

Jarid Kawamoto went 3-for-4 with a double for Kailua and Santos helped his cause by driving in two runs.

John Uehara drove in two of Kaiser's three runs.

Moanalua 10, Kalani 7: The Menehunes' seven-run third inning put the Falcons away, barely.

Kalani got as close as 9-7, thanks to a five-run sixth and had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but fell short.

Brent Tanigawa went 4-for-5 with two triples and two RBIs, while Ric Fukushima clubbed a home run for the Menehunes.
