Army hearings planned
on 25th Infantry changes

Star-Bulletin staff

The Army will hold a series of seven hearings as it begins its preparation of an environmental impact statement assessing the impacts of transforming one of the 25th Infantry Division's two brigades into a mobile fighting force.

The transformation over the next decade would mean the construction, changes, and upgrading of firing ranges, training facilities, airfields and buildings at Schofield Barracks and Pohakuloa on the Big Island.

The change would mean an additional 480 soldiers, 1,600 family members and more than 400 new combat vehicles, called Strykers.

The hearings will begin on the Big Island April 16 at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel and continue on the next day at the Waikoloa Beach Resort. The hearings on both days will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The Oahu hearings will start on April 23 at Leilehua High School cafeteria, followed by another session April 24 at Kawananakoa Middle School; April 25, Haleiwa Elementary School; April 29, Kahuku High School; and April 30, Nanakuli High School. All of the Oahu sessions will begin at 6 p.m.
