Make friends at the fair

Hanahau'oli School hosts its annual "Friend raiser," or Children's Fair, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow on the school's grounds.

Faculty, parents and students consider it a place where children can find new friends and have fun decorating a mailbox, creating a painting or riding ponies. They can also have rainbows painted on their faces and hair.

The fun is not limited to keiki. Moms can shop for haku lei, cakes and desserts or fresh produce at the Country Store. Dads can eat another bowl of chili/rice while watching the entertainment as their children dash off to complete more arts and crafts, games and activities.

Funds raised during the event will be used for financial aid and classroom expenses.

Hanahau'oli is located at 1922 Makiki St. at the corner of Nehoa and Makiki streets, three blocks ewa of Punahou School. For more information, call the school at 949-6461 or visit its Web site at www.hanahauoli.org.

Designer wins award

Honolulu interior designer Jim Motonaga of ADI Design Group has been named recipient of an Award of Excellence in Sunset Magazine's Western Residential Interior Design competition.

His award-winning project, "North Shore Retreat," a Kailua residence, will be featured in Sunset's November issue. The project is one of 12 winners selected from 177 entries.

Dog trainer earns title

Dog trainer Wendy L. Mah of Honolulu has earned Level 1 certification through the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers, the first national certification for dog trainers in history.

Up until the creation of the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers in 2001, there was no true certification process for dog trainers. Many schools teach dog trainers and offer certification for their specific programs, reflecting the teachings and quality of a specific school.

Candidates who pass the exam earn the title Certified Pet Dog Trainer and may use the designation "CPDT" after their names. All certified trainers must earn continuing education credits to keep their designations, or take the examination again in three years. There are 236 Certified Pet Dog Trainers in the United States and Canada.
