Seasider’s Foyle named
to All-American team

Brigham Young-Hawaii junior forward Alexus Foyle was chosen as an Honorable Mention All-American yesterday by the Division II Bulletin.

Foyle was the only player from the Pacific West Conference to receive mention.

The PacWest player of the year averaged 20.4 points and 7.1 rebounds a game for the Seasiders. The 6-foot-6 Foyle became just the third player in school history to average 20 points a game.

He also shot 55.6 percent from the field.

Foyle, a native of Canouan, St. Vincent, did not play basketball in high school. He played two years of junior college ball before joining BYUH this past season.

Garcia advances in Rip Curl Pro

Hawaii's Sunny Garcia beat Brazil's Fabio Gouveia in 3-to-4 foot waves in the third round of the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Australia, today.

Garcia, the 2000 world champion, is trying to win the event for the fourth time.

Hawaii's Kalani Robb is expected to surf in his third-round heat today against Brazil's Guilherme Herdy.

UH men's tennis team close out home season

Malino Oda outlasted Gordon Hong, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, to push the Hawaii men's team past Azusa Pacific, 4-3, in the home finale at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Warriors (16-10) won two of three doubles matches against the seventh-ranked NAIA Cougars (14-7).

Azusa Pacific then won three of the first five singles matches to set up the deciding contest between Oda and Hong.

Three seniors played in their final home match -- and all won. Lincoln Leeder and Jorge Gonzalez won in singles in straight sets. Gonzalez also teamed with Kai Ohuchi to win a doubles set.

UH now prepares for the Western Athletic Conference tournament in Tulsa, Okla., from April 26-30.

Mustangs clobber Seasiders twice

Angela Slaugh threw a five-inning no-hitter against Brigham Young-Hawaii yesterday, leading Western New Mexico to an 8-0 win in Silver City, N.M.

BYUH lost the second game of the doubleheader, 9-0, to fall to 9-22 for the year, 2-12 in the Pacific West Conference.

Crystal Elson doubled for the Seasiders, one of only two hits in the second game against the Mustangs (25-7-1, 16-2), who totaled 24 hits in two games.

BYUH tennis teams cruising on the road

The Brigham Young-Hawaii men's and women's tennis teams made big statements against West Florida yesterday on the road.

The top-ranked men whipped the No. 7 Argonauts, 7-2, and the women, ranked second, beat the nation's fifth-rated squad, 9-0.

The matchup of the day featured BYUH's Jan Krecji, ranked second in Division II, against No. 3 Radovan Chrz. Krecji made up for his lone loss last year -- to Chrz at the ITA Small College Championships -- by winning 6-4, 6-2.

Hung Soon Park, Peter Madarassy, Eddie Merc and Daouda Pdiaye also won in singles for the Seasiders (18-0).

The BYUH women swept five of the six singles matches, with the otherone going to three sets. Petra Gaspar routed Sabine Krawietz, 6-0, 6-1.
