The suspects arrested for allegedly beating a Wahiawa father of four to death two months ago do not include the man with whom the victim had been arguing prior to the attack, Honolulu police said.

Police arrested three men Monday night for allegedly murdering Mark Mehr on Feb. 11. Police said the three are 18 or 19 years old and that two of them are more than 6 feet tall and weigh close to 300 pounds each.

According to police, Mehr, 43, had been driving home when he got into a confrontation with a man near 329 California Ave. During that argument, three suspects appeared and started to beat Mehr, police allege.

"The guy that was involved in the argument initially just stepped back," said homicide Lt. Bill Kato. He said the person who had first argued with Mehr is a witness in the case.

Police arrested the fourth suspect for allegedly driving Mehr's car without permission. The 36-year-old man allegedly got into Mehr's truck after the beating and moved it into a parking structure nearby.

Mehr was declared brain dead at the Queen's Medical Center within 24 hours of the attack and was removed from life support several days later.

Homicide detectives interviewed more than 30 people in this case to find witnesses to Mehr's beating. Police said media attention of the case initiated many anonymous leads, but no one wanted to come forth for the record.

"It came down to just knocking on a lot of people's doors," said homicide Detective Ted Coons.
