Former St. Louis standout Travis Lee got another piece of hardware last week, as the 125-pound wrestler for Cornell was named rookie of the year in both the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association and the Ivy League. Lee gets another award
"Being an All-American as a freshman is impressive enough," Cornell coach Rob Koll said. "But to come out of Hawaii and surprise everybody like that is amazing."
Lee, who won All-American status for coming in seventh in the NCAA tournament last week, was one of nine Big Red wrestlers to be honored by the league. He went into the tournament seeded 11th and finished the season 29-9.
Lee is the fifth Cornell wrestler to win rookie of the year, following Mike Klinglesmith, who won it in 1993. The award bodes well for Lee's future, as six rookie winners have went on to become the league's wrestler of the year.
