College split in softballKristine Kahoalii fired a two-hitter to lead Hawaii-Hilo past Rollins College 2-0 in the opener of a softball doubleheader yesterday at Winter Park, Fla.
Rollins College (21-7)erupted for eight hits off of Vulcans starter Taysha Anderson in a 2-1 second-game victory.
Wendy Layton and Kayla Kahulu ripped two hits and drove in one run apiece for Hawaii-Hilo (25-10).
Nancy Vega also had two hits for the Vulcans, while Abby Padasdao scored both runs and socked a double.
Seven Hawaii-Hilo players had hits in the second game, but Leinani Hashida produced the only run with a home run.
Hawaii earns 5 golds at world paddling sprints
Hawaii took 18 medals, including five golds, at the 10th International Va'a Federation's World Sprint Championships in Bora Bora, Tahiti, earlier this month.Tahiti won 26 of the 40 gold medals and 73 medals total. New Zealand was a distant second, taking five gold medals and 19 total, while Hawaii placed third.
Hawaii's gold-medal winning crews were Lanikai in open men 1,500 meters, Hawaii in open men 500 meters, Anuenue in senior men masters 500 meters, Team Oahu in senior women masters 1,000 meters, and Team Hawaii/Kai Opua in women masters 500 meters.

Chelsea Garner Prohs scored five goals to lead No. 9 Hawaii past UC Irvine 11-5 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex last night.

Mallory Anderson, Hawaii Pacific softball: The freshman pitcher from Santa Ana, Calif., earned her first PacWest Player of the Week honor on Tuesday after going 2-0 with a save in three appearances last week. Since being inserted into the Sea Warriors' starting rotation, Anderson is 7-1 with a conference-leading 0.56 ERA.Abby Padasdao, Hawaii-Hilo softball: Led Vulcans to three wins in four PacWest games last week by going 7-for-15 at the plate. Padasdao stroked a double, triple and two home runs among her hits to drive in six RBIs.
