Electro Expo helps
your car be all it can beTWO WEEKS ago in this space, I told you about the First Hawaiian International Auto Show at the Hawai'i Convention Center. If you have the bank to pick up the tab for a new ride, that show was a great opportunity to check out all the 2002 vehicles before making a decision.
This weekend's auto event, on the other hand, is all about what you can do to your car or truck after it's been driven off the dealer's lot. The Aloha Electro Expo and Auto Innovation Show is part new automotive product expo and part show-car competition.
Live entertainment is scheduled throughout the expo, which runs today through Saturday at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Guys, be sure to bring a camera ... you're not going to want to miss the "Miss Electro" bikini contest or the LBZ playmate search. I'm sure some of the imports and 4x4's being shown off will be worth a picture too -- if you've got film left ...
Doors open today at 5 p.m. and at noon tomorrow and Saturday. Check out the rides and new products until 11 p.m. today and tomorrow, to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Call 596-2626 for more information.
SALSA FANS have a new hangout in Waikiki starting this weekend. Latin Lady DJ Margarita and Son D' Hawaii present El Coqui every Friday and Saturday night at Amerasia Bar and Grill. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. for you cha cha and meringue fans, with DJ Alberto spinning on Fridays and DJ Margarita on Saturdays.
Haven't mastered enough moves to make the dance floor sizzle yet? There's still hope. Join Greg "Salsaman" Henry on Saturday night at El Coqui and he'll teach you a move or two ...
Amerasia Bar and Grill is located at 2301 Kuhio Ave. Ages 18 and over welcome.
THERE'S GOING to be a high concentration of chicks at Kahala Mall this weekend. Bunnies too. It's all a part of the mall's Easter exhibit, open during mall hours through Saturday.
Greg MacDonald, the Hawaii Jitterbugs, Halau Hula O Leolani and Kupono Kane will perform from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, and the Honolulu Rose Society, Dragon Garden Nursery and the Kaimuki Orchid Society will present a flower show. And you can't forget the picture booth with the Easter Bunny ...
Out and about
HEAD OVER to Kapiolani Bandstand tonight for a free concert by the always entertaining Willie K.It's going to be a katchi-katchi kind of evening with Willie, so be sure to get there early to find a good seat. Jan Brenner and Ten Feet are also scheduled to perform. The show gets started at 7:30 p.m. at the bandstand.
Although Uncle Willie is promoting his album "Awihilima: Reflections," I've still got "The Uncle in Me: Volume Two" in my CD changer. Of the 11 tracks on that disc, "Waiulu" and "Los Hawaiianos" are my favorites ...
VENTURE INTO Chinatown tomorrow night for the latest HeshamPhoto.com art show at Hesham's studio (186 N. King St., upstairs). Artists on the bill include Akasha, Angela, Jocef, Kenneth Brimmer, Reasonworks, the AF Crew, Nice One and Hesham.
What also makes Hesham's shows interesting is his willingness to mix both audio and visual media. DJ's Positive Regime, Sovern-T, A2Z, and Monkey join Ray and Killawatz Da Mongoose to provide aural stimulation while you peep the art. Quadraphonix will also perform...
SPRING BREAK 2002 continues Saturday night at the Hawaiian Hut with Hawaiian Hurricane's Spring Break Bikini Invasion. Ooklah the Moc will be on stage and over $1,000 in prizes are up for grabs at this 18 and over party.
