If your 5-year-old insists he saw a dinosaur while he was supposed to be sleeping, don't be too sure it was a dream. You won't even have to look under the bed if you're at the Bishop Museum's "Midnight with Mammoths" educational sleepover program Friday night. Bishop Museum hosts
dino exhibit sleepoverChildren and their parents are
invited to attend Friday's eventStar-Bulletin staff
Parents and children are invited to bring their sleeping bags and curl up next to a life-size animated dinosaur that moves and roars occasionally at the museum's Castle Memorial Building. Don't worry -- the sound and visual effects will be turned off at 10:30 p.m. for sleepyheads.
Check in at 6 p.m. to learn about dinos and other prehistoric beasts like a T. rex and saber-toothed tigers -- not a Winnie the Pooh in sight. There will be a flashlight tour, fossil making, hands-on demonstrations and crafts, a planet show, interactive exhibit activities and pizza at 8 p.m. A late movie, Walt Disney's "Dinosaur," will be available for those who want to stay up past the 10:30 lights-out, according to Cindy Hoddick, manager of the museum's education department.
Hoddick recommended people bring air mattresses to make sleeping on the floor a breeze.
Call Aina Kahooilihala at 848-4168 by Thursday for reservations. The cost is $30 per person, or $25 for members of the Bishop Museum Association. No more than two children are allowed per adult, and children must be between 5 and 10 years of age. A maximum of 60 people are allowed.
The museum has held sleepovers about two to four times a year, or whenever its exhibits change, for the past 10 years.
