Helam's life and his family are juxtaposed with events in the Holy Land during Christ's ministry in this film produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The film, which took more than two years to make, was filmed in Utah and California, but mostly on Kauai, where a 450-foot set included manmade American pyramids.
"Most everyone had a spiritual experience during the filming...," said former "Hawaii 5-0" actor Al Harrington, who has a leading role in "The Testaments."
Other Hawaii actors include Hans Maui Saito and Theo Coumbus, both of Kailua, and Kimo Hugho of Honolulu. Denmark's Tomos Kofod, who now has the title role in "Phantom of the Opera" in Europe, plays Christ.
