around town, as in this visit that Alan Wong paid
to his alma mater, Leilehua High School.
Hawaii Regional
Cuisine story on TVEmme Tomimbang retells the story of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine chefs in a television special airing at 9 p.m. tomorrow on KGMB/CBS.
The show was born of last summer's 10-year reunion of the 12 founders of the HRC movement. Tomimbang produced a nine-minute presentation for the gala dinner, which has been expanded into this hour-long special.
"Taste and Flavors of Aloha: The History of Hawaii Regional Cuisine" covers each chef's story, the development of the HRC movement and the influence it has had on both the local and national dining scene.
The show will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. March 30.
He is the eggman
An omelet is such a delicate thing, so prone to breaking, tearing, turning into mush. All the more reason to celebrate the accomplishments of Howard Helmer, who holds the Guiness world record for omelet-making, having dished up 427 in 30 minutes.
Helmer demonstrates his technique at the 2002 Egg Festival, Saturday and Sunday at Kahala Mall. The festival includes egg-decorating and rolling contests, storytelling and entertainment, chief among which is the 11:30 a.m. omelet-making demo on both days.
Helmer, the fast-action poster boy for the American Egg Board, has conducted more than 3,000 omelet workshops.
