About 10 to 15 workers from the departments of facility maintenance and parks are used for setup and maintenance. Some of those workers are paid overtime, but costs were not available, Lee said.
The Brunch on the Beach program, a larger production that involves shutting down a portion of Kalakaua Avenue the second Sunday each month, costs between $12,000 and $15,000 to put on, Lee said. About 25 workers are used for those events.
The vendors pay the city $500 each weekend they participate in the events. The city is also looking at possibly using the Waikiki Improvement Association and the Waikiki Business Improvement District to deal with the maintenance of the Brunch on the Beach program, Lee said. The Waikiki Improvement Association currently has a $50,000 contract to assist with procuring vendors and promotion.
