By Nelson DaranciangMarkes Rapoza is charged with the Jan. 18 robbery of Bailey's Antiques at 517 Kapahulu Ave. He is being in lieu of $100,000.
Police said Rapoza entered the store with a silver handgun and demanded jewelry. He fled with two antique Rolex watches.
Rapoza was arrested Saturday in connection with the shooting of a 52-year-old Pearl City man at GH Camera Pawn & Gold Exchange, 936 Kapahulu Ave.
Police said a man entered the store just before 4 p.m. and shot the shop owner in what police believe was a botched robbery. The shop owner fired his own handgun during the confrontation, then retreated to the back of the store where he struggled with the suspect and was shot a second time as he tried to exit the store, police said.
The shop owner was taken to Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with injuries to his chest and side.
Police arrested Rapoza 10 minutes after the shooting behind a home on Kihei Place near Market City Shopping Center, and recovered a 9 mm handgun from him. Rapoza was bleeding from injuries to his forehead and shoulder. He was also taken to Queen's for treatment and released back to police.
Rapoza is facing second-degree attempted-murder and firearm charges in the shooting. He also faces drug charges.
