Wahine welcome Golden
Bears to tourney

Thursday's Hawaii Invitational softball tournament will take on a slightly different look as one team pulled out.

Tokyo decided not to participate, leaving Hawaii, Hofstra, Northwestern, California and two teams from Japan.

Hawaii opens play with a doubleheader Thursday, taking on Cal at 5 p.m.

Each team is guaranteed six games with the championship to be played 5 p.m. Sunday at Rainbow Wahine Stadium.

The Golden Bears figure to give the Wahine their best challenge in the tournament, as they are 28-8 this year behind the .352 average of Kaleo Eldredge, who starred at Baldwin High School.

St. Francis alumnus J.C. Kira is behind the plate for Northwestern (6-6).

Ito selected best female judoka in prep tourney

Hawaii Tokai's Masami Ito was chosen as the Most Outstanding Female Judoka at the National High School and Collegiate Judo Championships Saturday in San Jose, Calif.

Ito won the gold in the 57-kilogram weight class to qualify for the honor.

Hawaii slips past Murray State in tennis

The Hawaii women's tennis team snapped Murray State's five-game winning streak with a 5-4 decision over the Racers at the UH Tennis Courts yesterday.

Lauren Fitzgerald, Birgitte Brubakken, Paulina Kravets and Justine Boutet won singles matches for the Wahine.
