'Sunset on the Beach' is moving to Waianae

As part of the city's "Rediscover Oahu's Neighborhoods" initiative, Waianae will be the site of this weekend's "Sunset on the Beach" movie and food fest.

The event is being held at Maili Beach Park beginning at 10 a.m. today with an open market showcasing community products, services, demonstrations, and arts and crafts.

Area entertainers will perform Hawaiian music and hula, and will be joined by Simplisity, Solana and the Country Side Band.

At 5 p.m. radio stations EXTREME 104.3 and KCCN FM100 will feature contests and local bands Believe and Pipeline on Saturday, and Koa'uka and Kapena on Sunday.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, Harrison Ford stars in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," and on Sunday, Denzel Washington is featured in "Remember the Titans."

Throughout the day, food stations will be hosted by Waianae restaurants including Makaha Resort Restaurant, Papa John's Waianae, Seaside Cafe, Sistah's Ono Fried Ice Cream Co., Uncle Lani's Snack Shop, Waianae Store Deli, Napaka Restaurant-Ihilanai Resort, Uncle Herb's Hot Malasadas, Chili's Bar & Grill, Hoohuli's Ohana Services, Komike Makua Catering, Simply Ono Food & Popcorn and Good Humor Ice Cream.

Parking and free trolley service will be available at the Nanakuli Butler Building, Waianae Mall, Waianae Regional Park/Waianae Bay Boat Harbor and Maili Beach Park.

Items from 6 burglaries recovered on Big Island

Big Island police are recognizing a South Kona police officer for his role in arresting juveniles involved in a number of burglaries in the area.

As a result of an investigation begun March 5, community policing officer Stan Haanio arrested the suspects on Wednesday and recovered all of the items taken in six burglaries.

The recovered items included assorted custom jewelry, two air rifles, stereo equipment and speakers, a paintball gun and accessories, collector coins and a double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun.

Since their arrests, the juveniles have been released to their parents' custody.

LEEWARD OAHU

Waianae man arrested in car-ramming incident

A 56-year-old Waianae man was arrested Thursday in connection with an incident last month in which his estranged wife's car was rammed multiple times.

Police said the man assaulted his 39-year-old wife on Feb. 28 in front of the woman's parent's home in Waianae and then fled. Later in the day, the man rammed her car as she was driving on Farrington Highway with her boyfriend, police said.

He allegedly rammed her car eight to 12 more times in the Kapolei Shopping Center parking lot as she tried to make her way to the Kapolei Police Station. The man was arrested for criminal property damage, abuse of a household member and terroristic threatening.

EAST OAHU

Sports collector jackets worth $60,000 are sought

CrimeStoppers and the Hono- lulu Police Department are asking for the public's assistance in locating $60,000 worth of collector jackets from various sports teams.

Police said 29 jackets worth about $2,300 each were stolen from a Kuliouou Road residence between Feb. 22 and March 3. So far, three jackets have been recovered, and now police are asking for help in finding the other 26 jackets.

Kakaako woman accused of assaulting daughter, 5

A 36-year-old Kakaako woman was arrested yesterday for allegedly sexually assaulting her 5-year-old daughter after reporting to police that the girl's father may have sexually assaulted the girl.

When police went to the woman's address, police said the girl told them it was her mother, not her father, who sexually assaulted her.

Police seek assistance in finding robbery suspect

CrimeStoppers and the Hono- lulu Police Department want the public's assistance in identifying a male suspect who robbed Don's Makiki Service Station, located at 1406 S. Beretania St., on Thursday.

Police said that just before 4 a.m., the suspect entered the Circle K convenience store, went directly to the counter, brandished a knife and demanded money. The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as in his early 20s, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 145 pounds, with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a yellow knit cap, a blue long-sleeve T-shirt and dark bluejeans.
