Dr. Deen Wong has been elected chief of staff for Kona Community Hospital on the Big Island.

He has been on the hospital staff since 1983. He is board-certified in immunohematology, anatomic and clinical pathology, and directs Pathology and Laboratory Services for the Clinical Laboratory of Hawaii.

He was elected to the chief of staff position by his colleagues for the second time. He replaces Dr. Robert Saito, who was acting chief of staff.

Dr. Santad Sira was elected vice chief of staff, and Dr. Norman Goody as secretary.

Appointed as department chiefs and comprising the hospital's medical executive committee were Drs. Robert Stiff, chief of OB/GYN; Lawrence Pebbles, chief of surgery; Robin Seto, chief of medicine; Richard McDowell, chief of the emergency room; and Mike Nicholas, chief of anesthesiology.

The 90-bed acute-care facility will open a 10,000-square-foot imaging center this summer with the newest equipment for diagnostic services.
