rantone@starbulletin.comNavy officials did not release much information about the victims except to say all four were men deployed on a surface ship involved in Operation Enduring Freedom.
"The victims here are deployed in support of their nation, and it's particularly tragic," said Lt. Cmdr. Jane Campbell. "The troublesome aspect is that now they (the burglars) are going after the money in the sailors' bank accounts."
Honolulu police said the burglars broke into the victims' rental unit at 1768 Ala Mahamoe St. sometime between Nov. 17 and Dec. 17. According to police, the suspect or suspects ransacked the house, took computer and stereo equipment and the men's military information and files.
Police said it seems that now the suspects are using the victims' personal information to siphon money from their bank accounts.
Since the burglary was reported, investigators have determined three of the four males' bank accounts have been depleted.
Police also said the suspect or suspects have attempted to open up new lines of credit.
Police do have a picture of a male suspect in the case.
The picture was a taken while the suspect attempted to get a Hawaii driver's license using the personal identification of one of the victims.
The suspect is described as in his 20s, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 225 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
A second suspect, named "Tasha," is also believed to be involved. Police have no further information on the second suspect.
