Hawaii never did crack the football Top 25 last year, and the Rainbows didn't make it in basketball until this week. UH honored
for athletic programBy Dave Reardon

"It's an honor. I think it's been a department effort," Hawaii athletic director Hugh Yoshida said. "Everyone pulled in the right direction. It's a compliment to the entire staff."
The cover story of the weekly magazine's March 18 issue is titled "America's Best College Sports Programs," and Hawaii is one of the schools in its inaugural College Sports Honor Roll.
The other schools cited are Boston College, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Lehigh, Penn State, Princeton, Stanford, UConn, Illinois, Maryland, UMass, Michigan, New Hampshire, Utah and Villanova.
The magazine used information from the 2000-2001 academic year in evaluating all 321 Division I programs. Much of the information came from the NCAA. Schools that had major NCAA infractions during the past 10 years were excluded.
"This is a tremendous honor for our coaches and administrators and the student-athletes who are responsible for the successes the program has enjoyed over the last several years," UH president Evan Dobelle said in a university news release. "I'm convinced our standing and reputation across the country will only get better in the years ahead."
