Musashimaru sends out
Mongolian Kyokutenho

OSAKA, Japan (AP) - Hawaii-born yokozuna (grand champion) Musashimaru forced out lower-ranked Mongolian Kyokutenho for his second straight victory on Monday, the second day of the 15-day Spring Grand Sumo Tournament.

Fighting in the day's final bout at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, western Japan, Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani, seeking his 10th tournament title, grabbed No. 2 maegashira (senior wrestler) Kyokutenho's belt and sent him out. Kyokutenho, or Tsevegnyam Nyamjav, is 0-2.

In other major bouts, ozeki (champion) Tochiazuma, seeking promotion to yokozuna, sumo's highest rank, slapped down winless No. 3 maegashira Tochinonada, fighting off Tochinonada's driving attempts by turning around the ring.

Tochiazuma won the last tournament in January and may be promoted to yokozuna if he wins this tournament.

Ozeki Kaio bulldozed out No. 2 maegashira Kotonowaka for his second straight victory. Kotonowaka is 1-1.

Ozeki Musoyama charged sekiwake (junior champion) Kotomitsuki with his hand thrusts against his foe's throat and forced him out, leaving both wrestlers at 1-1.

Ozeki Chiyotaikai downed winless komusubi (junior champion second class) Kotonosato with an arm-lock throw for his second victory against no defeats.

Sekiwake Asashoryu, or Mongolian Dolgorsvren Dagradrj, grabbed winless No. 1 maegashira Buyuzan's belt and threw him down for his first victory against one defeat.

No. 5 maegashira Toki (1-1) charged winless No. 3 maegashira Kyokushuzan, or Mongolian Batbayer Davaa, with hand thrusts against the throat and sent him out.

In the 26-member juryo division, just below the senior makuuchi division, No. 8-ranked Kuniazuma, or Brazilian Vander Ramos, withdrew from the current tournament because of back injury.

Another foreign wrestler in the division, No. 3-ranked Sentoryu, or American Henry Armostrong Miller, was sitting out this tournament because of a leg injury during training.
