Eddie Klaneski hasn't given up on his dream of playing pro football at its highest level.

The former Hawaii and Damien standout has signed on with the Fresno Frenzy of arenafootball2. Local fans will get to see him play here, as Fresno visits Blaisdell Arena on March 30 for the Hawaiian Islanders' debut.

Klaneski, 26, has lived in San Jose, Calif., the past 10 months; he played last season for the San Jose SaberCats of the original Arena Football League. Klaneski leaves the Bay Area for training camp in Fresno next week.

"Basically, the idea is to get on film and try to make it to the next level," the former all-Western Athletic Conference defensive back said. "I'm looking forward to the first game at Hawaii."

Klaneski said he heard the Frenzy were looking for players from his friend Brian Ah Yat, the former Iolani and Montana quarterback who now plays for Winnipeg of the Canadian Football League.

"It kind of came about in the last week or so," Klaneski said. "I was planning on getting re-signed with the SaberCats, but that fell through. I got a quick tryout."

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound wide receiver/defensive back said he has enjoyed his time in California. When not playing football he works as a trainer at a fitness center.

He said he will make $250 per game plus a $50 bonus per win.

"It's not much," Klaneski said. "But it's a chance."
