BYUH loses in the first round
of the NCAA-II tourney by 25From staff and wire reports
Then the Seasiders met up with a team that was a whole lot bigger.
BYUH lost in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament yesterday, getting spanked by Seattle Pacific 82-57.
The Seasiders hung with the nation's No. 9 team for the first 11 minutes, then gave up 12 straight points to the Falcons in an eight-minute stretch to find themselves down by 13 points.
It was a hole they would never climb out of, as they went into halftime down by 17 and would get no closer than 14 the rest of the game.
"We got down early and started pressing," BYUH coach Ken Wagner said. "I'm a little disappointed in how we folded at the end, but we are a young group and still learning."
Alexus Foyle led the Seasiders in scoring with 19 points, followed by Scott Salisbury with 12. Salisbury also had 11 rebounds, but was not his usual self in the post because of a nagging injury.
That injury may have been a reason Salisbury was held scoreless in the first half.
"Scott is still pretty much banged up," Wagner said. "We need him, he is our anchor."
The Seasiders were held to 35 percent shooting while allowing the Falcons to hit their baskets 58 percent of the time.
Seattle Pacific forced the Pacific West Conference's worst 3-point shooting team to try to catch up from long range, and it wasn't happening. The Seasiders were 5-for-19 from behind the arc.
Nick Johnson led the Falcons with 27 points, followed by Eric Sandrin with 15 and Yusef Aziz with 14.
