Master to offer workshops on qi gong techniques

Qi gong master Li Junfeng, who advocates mental and physical fitness through the ancient Chinese practice, will be in Hawaii to conduct workshops and a seminar beginning next week.

Using the theme of "A Return to Wholeness," Li will demonstrate techniques to reduce stress and tension, cultivate health and vital energy, and achieve tranquility and inner peace.

His form of qi gong requires less physical effort, Li said. It does not follow the rigidity of traditional qi gong and so is easier to learn and practice.

Li is a celebrated practitioner of traditional Chinese martial arts who left China and began developing a "wholeness" form of qi gong. He was head coach of the Beijing Wushu Team for more than 15 years. During that time he led the team to an unprecedented 12 straight years of gold medal awards in China's national competitions.

Li will conduct a two-day seminar concentrating on techniques of sitting and standing qi gong. The seminar will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16 and 17. The cost is $150 per person.

He will give daily workshops focusing on healing qi gong techniques. The workshops will be held 6 to 9 p.m. from March 18 through 21. Each workshop costs $40.

The seminar and workshops will be held at One Kalakaua Senior Living's Multiple Purpose Room, 1314 Kalakaua Ave. Call 375-5845 for reservations and information.
