Feeling some Canadian heat
They come from the Great North, Victoria, British Columbia, in Canada, filled with the sound of tense and angular synth-rock, combining '60s mod rock, '70s progressive and '80s new wave/punk. They are ... Hot Hot Heat! The quartet features Steve Bays' eccentric vocalizing (like the slightly strangled sound of The Cure's Robert Smith) and ominous tunes like "Le Le Low" and "5 Times Out of 10" from its Sub Pop CD-Ep debut "Knock Knock Knock" (a full-length album is forthcoming). Dante DeCaro (guitar), Paul Hawley (drums) and Dustin Hawthorne (bass) round out the band.
The punk-rock showcase at Pink Cadillac also features local bands Hutchinson, The Nothing, Teradactyl, the final appearance of Three Is Company and Corkscrew Pee Pee (tonight), and Kite Festival, Bronson and Linus (tomorrow).
>> Place: Pink Cadillac, 478 Ena Road
>> Time: 7 p.m. today and tomorrow
>> Admission: $7, all ages
