Former exec of PBEC
to headline breakfastFormer Pacific Basin Economic Council Secretary General Bob Lees will be "singing for his breakfast" March 12 as he is honored for nine years on the job by numerous local organizations.
The Pacific and Asian Affairs Council, East-West Center, Hong Kong China Hawaii Chamber of Commerce, the Hawaii Society of Corporate Planners and the Japan-America Society of Hawaii are planning to fete and feed Lees at Waialae Country Club.
Lees will discuss the ways politics and economy around the Pacific region affect Hawaii.
His world travels have involved consultations with senior business and government officials on issues of mutual interest. Lees has also worked with an alphabet soup of international and regional organizations such as the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the World Bank and World Trade Organization.
Reservations will be accepted through March 11 at 944-7780. Attendance is $15 for members of sponsoring organizations; $20 for nonmembers.
Meanwhile back at PBEC, Lees' old title has changed to "president" and a committee of "member economies" is continuing its search, according to acting President Stephen Olson.
"We've got Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei and China, so we say 'economies' (instead of countries)," Olson said.

Meanwhile at sister station KORL FM, today is Joe Hart's last day as morning host. Hart stepped down from that and other duties at parent company New Wave Broadcasting LP to pursue other opportunities, according to a memo.
Operations Manager Mahlon Moore will take over mornings temporarily, followed by Laurie-Ann Salomon and then the single-named Jordan.
"We're going to put together a morning show," Moore said. Salomon is also the morning show co-host at sister station KPOI FM. That station has yet to replace Program Director Nikki Robinson, who departed earlier this month.
