BY THE EXTRA-BRIGHT LIGHT OF THE MOON

art
BRUCE N. OMORI / SPECIAL TO STAR-BULLETIN
A full moon rose over Honolulu last night, the brightest full moon of the year, according to NASA. Tonight, it will be just about as close to Earth as it gets in its elliptical orbit, the space agency said. As a result, the moon will appear 9 percent wider than normal and shine 20 percent more brightly. At the far end of its ellipse, called apogee, the moon is 252,700 miles from Earth. At the closest, the perigee, it is 221,500 miles away.

The skate bunch clowned around on Mahie Street in Foster Village yesterday. Kids here had a couple of wooden platforms and a pipe railing too. But "We need a skate park!" was the cry from the bunch. Back row, from left: Chad Cordes, Thomas Lee, Ka Chan Mok and Kelvin Ly. Middle row, from left: Mike Bautista, Kaipo Kaina, Matt Thanee, Robert Patcho and Otis Loo. Front: Carlo Legaspi.
