endowment for alma mater

Former Hawaii basketball player Anthony Carter, 26, has established an endowment fund with $100,000 to help the basketball program with scholarships.

Carter played for Hawaii from 1996 to 1998 and was the first Rainbow chosen as a finalist for the John R. Wooden award.

Carter now plays for the Miami Heat in the National Basketball Association.

"I just wanted to find a way to show my appreciation for all of the opportunities UH gave to me," Carter said in a release.

"I know that I wouldn't be living my dream today if it weren't for the support of my coaches, the university and all of the fans."
