Use traffic cams
for good, not evilSo here we have Clyde Arakawa found guilty of running a traffic signal and killing someone, although he said he had the green light. He was convicted because the jury didn't swallow that, or his Super-Liver defense.
And here we have dozens of traffic scofflaws being let loose in the traffic-cam debacle. No one disputes their guilt. There are photographs catching them in the act, after all. They're getting off because of legal technicalities, and because even the government is slowly realizing that harassing citizens over motoring judgment calls is deeply stupid.
So take these traffic cameras and set them up at high-risk intersections and high-crime areas. The fancy cameras set up all over Chinatown have deterred crime there, even though most of them don't work. The public is concerned about public safety, particularly in public areas.
