‘Man of War’ actor dies,
but show to go on

Star-Bulletin

The $70 million film "Man of War" starring Bruce Willis and scheduled to begin filming on Oahu next month will continue as planned despite the death of co-star and New Zealand actor Kevin Smith.

Some Hawaii crew members associated with the production, which began set building last week, said they have not received a notice of delay or postponement. Revolution Studios' executives were not available for comment.

The 38-year-old actor died in a Beijing hospital last Saturday after falling several stories, suffering critical head injuries about two weeks ago.

Smith, who was married with three children, played Ares, the god of war, in "Hercules" and "Xena: Warrior Princess." Smith had been in China filming a martial arts movie.

According to news reports, Smith's agent Robert Bruce said the fall did not happen during filming, but gave no other details.
