Aboriginal art discussed

Australian artist Judy Watson, whose work is inspired by the hidden history of her Aboriginal ancestors, will discuss her art tomorrow at the University of Hawaii-Manoa Art Auditorium. The 7:30 p.m. lecture is free. Call 956-8474.

Watson is a visiting artist for a residency program at the university.

'Mapaki' opens tomorrow

Dianna Fuemana captures the creativity and energy in contemporary Pacific theater in her acclaimed solo piece "Mapaki," which will be presented tomorrow through Sunday at The ARTS at Marks Garage.

Fuemana, who is of Niuean and Samoan extraction and hails from New Zealand, explores a story of domestic violence, intense friendship and growing up as a Pacific Islander. "Mapaki" premiered in New Zealand and has been performed in Europe and the United States.

Performances are at 8 p.m. tomorrow through Thursday, Saturday and Sunday; 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $15, available at the Hawaii Theatre. Charge by phone, 528-0506.

Isaacs, Yellowman to tour

Super Stars of Reggae, featuring Gregory Isaacs with the Kalabash Band and Yellowman with the Sagittarius Band, is scheduled to hit four islands in March 1. Times and sites:

Project Ballet due

Ballet Hawaii continues its 25th-anniversary season with a single performance of "Project Ballet Theatre" from the American Ballet Theatre, 7:30 p.m. March 13 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.

The Ballet Theatre's mission is to develop new works using the classical vocabulary and to offer a classical dance evening with contemporary significance. The group is under the artistic direction of Robert Hill, a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre.

Dancers include Susan Jaffe, principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, and Julie Kent, ABT principal dancer seen in the movie "Center Stage" and 2000 winner of the Prix Benois de la Danse held in Germany.
