’Bows nail down
their 20th win

Savovic scores 29 to help UH
hold on to first place in the WAC

DALLAS (AP) - Predrag Savovic and Carl English combined for 50 points as Hawaii defeated SMU 85-76 Thursday night.

Savovic scored 29 points, including 18 off 3-pointers for Hawaii (20-3, 11-1 WAC).

English scored 21 points and had nine rebounds. Mike McIntyre and Mindaugas Burneika came off the bench to score 11 points each for Hawaii.

Hawaii led for most of the game, but SMU was able to take a 66-65 lead on a put-back by Quinton Ross with 6:19 to play.

Savovic made a steal and found Burneika to give Hawaii the lead for good with 5:17 left.

Ross led SMU with 26 points, 18 of those from 3-pointers. Damon Hancock added 13 points and Kris Lowe scored 11 for SMU (11-10, 6-5).

Hawaii scored 12 points off turnovers.

Hawaii shot 48 percent from the field to 40 percent for SMU. SMU had the edge in rebounds, 47-32.
