"What this whole exercise has been is a continuation of the hateful campaign of harassment waged by homosexual activists and their supporters against me and my family since the day I offered to serve the Board of Education," said Gabbard, who received an informal advisory opinion by the commission last week.
In March 2001, activists filed a complaint against Gabbard with the state Ethics Commission alleging her failure to comply with financial interest disclosure laws.
"People can be sure that such attempts by homosexual activists to smear my reputation will continue in the future. But they can also be sure that I will not allow such attacks to deter me from carrying out my service to our families and schoolchildren," said Gabbard, whose husband, Mike Gabbard, founded the Alliance for Traditional Marriage and Values.
Last month, the state Campaign Spending Commission rejected charges filed by Nancy Gillespie, who claimed Gabbard exceeded campaign spending limits.
