Job Shadow Day seeks mentors for isle students

Friday is Groundhog Job Shadow Day, a mentoring program for middle and high school students.

For the fifth year, Junior Achievement is asking for interested people to mentor one or two students for two to three hours.

"Any job-shadowing experience can make a difference by making school more relevant and giving students a new vision for their future," said Job Shadow Coordinator Tanya Goodwin-Maslach.

Job Shadow Day helps students explore career opportunities and to connect skills they learn in the classroom with the reality of the workplace.

The students shadow a mentor while he or she performs his or her normal duties.

Students are required to dress appropriately.

America's Promise, GEAR-UP, Junior Achievement and School-to-Work have partnered up for the program.

Mentors gain satisfaction and pride of being able to show a student the skills needed for their jobs. Call Tanya Goodwin-Maslach at 544-1777, ext. 11, or e-mail jobshadow@ jahawaii.com for more information.
