The Hawaii coed sailing team opened the new year by winning the Rainbow Invitational at Keehi Lagoon over the weekend. Hawaii sailors
capture invitationalUH, which was split into five squads, was led by the Green team of Bryan Lake, Jennifer Warnock, Adam Corpuz-Lahne and Melody Torres. UH Yellow (Steve Brown, Ann Feeley-Summerl, Joey Pasquali and Lindsay Peters) finished second, followed by UC Santa Barbara, Southern California and Stanford.
The Wahine team, led by All-Americans Molly O'Bryan and Sarah Hitchcock, finished 11th in the regatta, which featured 18 teams from nine schools.
The coed team sails next at the St. Mary's Intersectional March 2-3 in Maryland.
The next competition for the Wahine is March 9-10 at the Navy Spring Women's Intersectional.
Warriors get back on court with sweep
Hawaii swept Sonoma State 7-0 in men's tennis at UH yesterday.The Warriors had not played in a month and a half, but had little trouble getting back into the swing of things.
UH's Justin Menolascino got his team-leading fourth victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ken Limanseto. Malino Oda did Menolascino one better, beating Ryan Shipman 6-1, 6-0. Only Lincoln Leeder was challenged by Sonoma State. He needed three sets to beat Glen Smith 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
Hawaii rises to fourth in AVCA volleyball poll
The Hawaii volleyball team dropped to No. 4 in this week's USA Today/AVCA poll after going 2-1 in the Outrigger Hotels Invitational. They were No. 5 last week.UCLA received 14 of 15 first-place votes to top out at No. 1, followed by Stanford and Pepperdine.
Hawaii returns to action Jan. 29 when it visits No. 2 Stanford for two matches.
Baseball and softball tickets go on sale
Hawaii baseball and softball tickets are now on sale at the UH ticket office and all Ticket Plus outlets.Baseball individual game tickets are $6 for seats in the blue and orange sections and $5 for seats in the red. Seniors, UH students and students ages 4-18 can purchase red tickets for $4.
Softball season tickets are $40 for adults, $25 for seniors and $12.50 for students.
The UH baseball team starts its season on Jan. 30 at Les Murakami Stadium against No. 2 Florida State. The first home game for the Wahine is Feb. 14 at the Chevron Paradise Classic.
