‘Ola’s Son’ opens



"Ola's Son" returns to the stage for three shows at 9 p.m. tomorrow through Saturday at Mark's Garage.

The drama , based on the Rodney Laulusa tragedy, stars Misa Tupou and Lani-girl. It's being staged in advance of a run at the New Zealand International Festival of Arts.

A taste of Australia

Jan. 26 is Australia Day, but the celebration will be a week later, Feb. 2, at the Australia Day Ball at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

On the program is a a four-course dinner, plus dancing to the Clyde Pound Band. The menu features fresh ingredients coming from Australia: Moreton Bay Spanner Crab Cakes, Tomato and Sweet Onion Salad, Passion Fruit Pavlova, and an entrée choice of Smoked Rack of Lamb, Grilled Australian Wild King Moi or Whole Wheat Noodles with Asparagus.

The party begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $85. Call 956-2242. Reservation deadline is Friday.

How's your handwriting?

In honor of John Hancock's birthday, Jan. 23 has been dubbed National Handwriting Day by the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Day, a time to recognize the power of handwriting as a means of gaining insight on individuals.

Handwriting expert Reed Hayes, a member of the National Association of Document Examiners, frequently works with attorneys in assisting with jury selection based on handwriting analysis that can reveal personality traits. He can be reached at 528-1112.

Also, certified graphoanalyst Ruthie Chong has come up with a booklet entitled "Handwriting Analysis: 101 Fun Facts with Stories," offering a glimpse into one's strengths as revealed through the pen. She says, "who you think you are may not be who you really are."

For instance, fact No. 36 indicates a light hand is resilient to stress and capable of bouncing back quickly in almost any situation.

Fact No. 40: Upswings at the end of your words mean you like to be noticed and appreciated.

Fact No. 65: Writers with equally balanced letter f's (with or without loops) can easily coordinate time, plans, people, data or projects.
