results across the island chain

This photo was shot by Kepa Maly at 7:15 a.m. yesterday from his home in Panaewa, outside Hilo. He said it was the only time of day that the entire mountain was visible. The access road to the summit of Mauna Kea remained closed yesterday morning because of snow and ice. Snow fell as low as 7,000 feet, according to an observatory report, and appeared to be less than one foot deep at the summit. According to the National Weather Service, the islands are experiencing a "Kona storm," with showers and thunderstorms that produce heavier rain than normal tradewind showers. Low temperatures across the islands will drop to the mid- to upper 60s. The weather pattern could last through the end of the week.
