Honolulu police arrested one of two suspects whom they believe are responsible for as many as 12 armed robberies since Dec. 20.

A 20-year-old Kaneohe Marine who was arrested at 5:25 a.m. yesterday for a firearms violation remains in custody and is being questioned in connection with the robberies.

Police made the arrest outside the Marine Corps Base Hawaii main gate after witnesses to a firearms case in Waikiki provided police with the man's description and the license number of his car. They waited for him at the gate and arrested him with assistance from military police.

Three of the 12 robberies occurred yesterday, police said.

Police believe the suspects robbed Aaxtion Adult Video & Books at 1661 Kapiolani Blvd. at 3:48 a.m. yesterday.

Two men walked into the store with guns drawn and demanded money from an employee. Police said the employee ducked to the floor. The suspects then threw some papers, compact discs and other items around the store before leaving without anything.

Police believe the same two suspects robbed three men at a taxicab office on Young Street at 4 a.m. The suspects entered the second-floor office with guns drawn and demanded money, police said.

One of the victims received minor injuries when one of the suspects shoved him down the stairway on his way to get money from his taxicab.

Police also said they believe the suspects robbed the 7-Eleven store in Waipahu at 94-264 Farrington Hwy. just before 1 a.m.

The pair also are believed responsible for three armed robberies Sunday, from Waipahu to Salt Lake, including at a Chevron Food Mart near Aloha Stadium.

Police said they are continuing to look for the other suspect, a male in his 20s.
