>> Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will be the setting of a 3:30 p.m. service tomorrow sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance of a dozen Oahu congregations. Music by the combined gospel choirs of several churches and an address by the Rev. Michael Henderson, pastor of New Life Body of Christ Church in Wahiawa, will be featured. The service is open to the public.
The church at 3950 Paine Circle is near the Hickam Air Force Base entrance, reached from Nimitz Highway and Valkenburgh Street.
>> The Rev. Houston McLendon, pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, will speak and the church choir will sing Monday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Unity Rally at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. Members of several churches will join the 8:30 a.m. parade from Ala Moana Park through Waikiki to Kapiolani Park, followed by an all-day rally and entertainment.
>> The Church of the Crossroads, 1212 University Ave., will hold its annual Hawaii Peacemaker Award program at 7 p.m. Monday.
The award, created in King's name to honor a local individual or organization for commitment to peace and justice, will be presented to Robert R. Dye, 80. During his career with the YMCA here and on the mainland, Dye brought police and inner-city youths together for dialogue, and initiated programs to debate concerns such as racial relations. He was a staff member for the national YMCA board in New York and the YMCA World Alliance in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Monday evening program, which is free and open to the public, will also include a presentation of "Ka Lei Maile Ali'i," a play dramatizing the women who remained faithful to Queen Lili'uokalani after her overthrow and throughout her life.
