Preview

The following is a preview of movies opening this weekend. Preview runs every Tuesday in the Star-Bulletin:

"Black Hawk Down" -- This Ridley Scott ("Gladiator") movie has already made a couple of critics' best-of lists, and promises to be the year's first blockbuster. Two Black Hawk helicopters get shot down during the Battle of Mogadishu on Oct. 3, 1993, when an elite American military force went into action to abduct two of the lieutenants of a Somalian warlord. The ensuing ground battle ended up being the longest sustained one involving American soldiers since the Vietnam War. The cast is led by Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore and rising star Eric Bana (R).

"Snow Dogs" -- A Miami dentist (Cuba Gooding Jr.) goes to Alaska to claim his inheritance, only to find out it's a team of sled dogs. He then has to either learn the sledding trade with the help of his "talking" dogs or lose them to a crusty mountain man (James Coburn) in this Disney film (PG).
